Biography
Australian Comic Creators are a group of passionate industry creators who have joined together to promote the industry. They are:
Marcelo Baez works as a freelance illustrator/comic artist, creating work for comics, magazines, posters, trading cards and a plethora of other print and online imagery. His list of clients include international companies such as Marvel, Event Cinemas, Time Inc, Hardie Grant Egmont, Popular Mechanics US, GQ Australia, Microsoft, Men’s Health, National Geographic, Scholastic, ESPN Magazine, Dallas Observer, Time Out Singapore, Stone Arch books and many more. Currently he is working on a Greek myth graphic novel and a post-apocalyptic movie comics crossover.
W Chew (“Chewie”) Chan is a veteran comics and storyboard artist, working on movies and characters like Superman Returns, Mad Max: Fury Road, Happy Feet and Iron Man. He is also a comics consultant (Kinokuniya Bookstore, Warner Bros, SBS Online), a lecturer (UTS Master of Animation, NSW Writers Centre, Sydney Writers Festival), and writer (Books + Publishing Magazine).
Queenie Chan was born in 1980 in Hong Kong, and migrated to Australia when she was six years old. In 2004, she began drawing a mystery-horror series called The Dreaming for LA-based manga publisher TokyoPop. She has since collaborated on several single-volume graphic novels with best-selling authors Dean Koontz (on Odd Thomas) and Kylie Chan (on Small Shen). She is currently working on Fabled Kingdom, a fairy-tale inspired fantasy series.
Julie Ditrich is a comics writer / editor. She has contributed to multiple anthologies, but is best known for co-writing ElfQuest: WaveDancers (Warp Graphics), Dart (Image Comics) and Elf~Fin (Black Mermaid Productions), which resulted in 270,000+ sales internationally. She is also the administrator of the professional development service Comics Mastermind.
Karen Dwarte, a librarian at Ashfield Library, has developed significant graphic novel collections over the past ten years. Karen has been the organiser of Comic Con-versation since 2014, a festival held across Sydney libraries, aiming to promote graphic novel collections and support the works of local comic creators.

Bruce Mutard is a comics author, researcher, industry consultant and program director of the Australian Comic Arts Festival (ACAF). His books include The Sacrifice (Allen & Unwin), The Silence (Allen & Unwin), and A Mind of Love (Black House Comics). His work has also appeared in Overland, Meanjin, The Australian Book Review, Cordite and Tango among others.
Christopher Sequeira is a writer and editor specialising in science fiction, horror, fantasy, mystery and superheroes. He’s written for book and comics publishers like Marvel Comics, DC Comics, has created original characters, and developed new takes on public domain and licensed characters and concepts such as Sherlock Holmes, the Cthulhu Mythos, Doctor Fu Manchu, Iron Man, The X-Men and the Justice League.
